OneClick.chat recently hired Sadie Andersen as our company's chief of staff. Her role includes tackling problems across business development, marketing, product, and operations while working closely alongside CEO Dillon Myers. She was a philosophy major with minors in creative writing and entrepreneurship at VT who graduated in the spring of 2020. Andersen comes to OneClick with extensive writing and editing experience at companies like Red Hat, Fiverr, and Soma International.
We sat down with Sadie to hear about her experiences, ideas for OneClick, and goals in her position. Here is what she had to say:
Sadie! We are so excited and happy for you to be here at OneClick!
Thanks! Me, too! I can’t wait to be a part of the company. I see so much potential both with the product and the leadership.
Well, I know we are ready for you here and are very impressed by your work with Venture for America and other marketing and content-related roles you held. How did you find us?
I heard about your position in my role as a 2020 Fellow at Venture for America, on our Match portal, where we were looking to be paired with a successful startup in one of our fourteen developing cities. OneClick.chat has been my top company since day one. I am so happy to finally start here!
That’s good to hear! What inspired you to work in this field?
I have worked previously in small organizations such as the nonprofit Soma International, and enjoy being a part of creating a new company culture, getting creative with ideas, and making an impact. I studied Entrepreneurship in school, growing my love of the field, and knew I wanted to learn from a growing startup, so I joined Venture for America.
Those seem like great experiences, and it sounds like you really found what you enjoy doing along the way.
Yes, I definitely did. In college, I volunteered with a senior’s home, inspiring my Venture for America Credos.
The Credos is a speech I gave at my Venture for America training camp. It was about how one of the seniors at the senior’s home I volunteered at changed my life. Seeing the neglect she and others just like her experienced inspired me to want to live my life helping seniors, and that’s part of what I love about OneClick. The mission to help those struggling with loneliness and social isolation through technology means a lot to me.
That’s amazing, Sadie. Is the senior you volunteered with a part of why you are here?
She’s definitely part of the reason. My Dad is also a huge inspiration to me. He runs his own business and inspired me to believe in myself enough to study Entrepreneurship. And I am also here because of my family, who supports me, no matter where I am in my life.
It’s all about the people behind you, isn’t it?
It has to be. And hopefully we grow to see that we are responsible for supporting all of those around us, as well.
I agree, 100%. Looking at those experiences and people who helped get you here, is there anything you wish went differently?
I wish I would’ve believed more in myself when I was younger, such as in high school and early college. It never occurred to me that I would be capable of creating my own destiny to potentially change other people’s lives.
I mean, Chief of Staff, right out of college? It can’t get much better than that!
I know! My former self would be surprised that I made it here! As I get older, my best advice for younger people is that you can do anything you put your mind to. So, honestly, dream big and ignore imposter syndrome. Only you can define yourself. You can do it!
So now that you have officially defined yourself, what are you bringing to the table?
I am an ideas-person at heart. I am going to brainstorm to create new initiatives for OneClick.chat!
You are already going to fit right in.
That’s what it seems like! And I’m ready to round out the team, bringing ideas to new areas of the company. I am going to bring the strategy needed to create new initiatives within our organization, as well as ongoing ones.
That’s definitely a good thing for OneClick to know.
I just love to bounce ideas off of people, you know? I am a pretty open person and enjoy hearing other people’s perspectives, too. So, feel free to disagree with me if I ever suggest anything. This is all a part of the learning process.
I bet Venture for America really loved your thoughts about a learning process.
That’s what Entrepreneurship is all about.
What’s something you’re most proud of and how are you going to top that here?
I used to be a freelance editor at Fiverr! It was very exciting to create my own listing and start from scratch.
That’s very cool to have been able to do that!
For sure, and I can’t wait to bring my entrepreneurial, marketing, writing, and business development experience here to our organization. We are mission-driven so I am very excited to devote all my energy to preventing loneliness for all people, especially older adults.
And how should we expect to see that from you in your position as Chief of Staff?
I would describe my role as a jack-of-all-trades role.
Okay, I like that.
As Chief of Staff, I work directly with the CEO, Dillon Myers, tackling problems across business development, marketing, product, and operations. Expect to see me brainstorming new ideas to bring to the organization, such as rebranding, growing social media reach, and creating an email list!
So, where do you see OneClick going in the future?
We're already on a great path, and I can’t wait to make a difference and support Dillon, especially as we take on more initiatives as an organization and work to create a positive experience for seniors. As far as how I see the company, I see us becoming much bigger- someday becoming the ‘Apple’ of video software, beloved for our simplicity as a video platform, especially in the senior space. I can’t wait to be a part of that.
